PROJECT NUMBER: NM FAA DEM(1)
PROJECT NAME: Deming Access Road
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The NM FAA DEM(1) Deming Access Road project is located in Dona Ana County, NM within the Organ Mountains - Desert Peaks National Monument. The project site is approximately 23 miles northwest of Las Cruces, NM in rolling terrain. The road provides access to the Deming (DMN) New Mexico Air Route Surveillance Radar (ARSR) where continued and safe access to the facility are required. The intent of the project is to increase drainage capacity along the roadway and prevent erosion and distress from occurring during heavy precipitation events, which will increase the overall safety of the roadway.
SCOPE OF THE WORK: The purpose of the project is to reconstruct two heavily damaged portions of the Deming Access Road within a 2.0‐mile segment of the overall road length. Major work elements include the following: CMP culvert construction, ditch reconditioning and armoring, moderate earthwork, guardrail replacement, and asphalt surface treatments.
Traffic volumes along the route are very low with less than 50 vehicles per day using the road. It is anticipated the road will be closed during construction; however, emergency, and administrative access will still need to be provided by the contractor.
